Albanian immigrants seem to be abandoning Greece by the thousands, due to the deepening financial crisis and rising unemployment that has hit 23.1 percent. Unable to make ends meet, they are making their way to Australia, just as Greeks did decades ago.
Albanian Foreign Affairs Minister Edmond Panariti referred to the phenomenon during his visit to Australia recently. He met with Greek-Australian, Nick Kotsiras, the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship in Melbourne and discussed the crisis in Greece, and its effect on Albanians living there. Panariti was paying an official visit to Australia.
