Minister of Arts George Souris Praises Aussie Films

With more Australian films turning into box office successes around the world, Greek-Australian Minister for the Arts, George Souris, said he couldn’t be happier that moviegoers are learning what good films the country produces, including with the likes of director Nadia Tass, who was born in Greece and is known for such moving films as Matching Jack.

Souris said believes strong partnerships with the New South Wales government will enable more Aussie films to be produced and find their way to the top. He noted that, “Lovers of Australian cinema have great times ahead with films from NSW filmmakers such as Mental, The Railway Man, Dead Europe and Lore to be released over the coming months.” The new Wolverine movie starring Aussie Hugh Jackman, and the new Lego animated movie are being filmed in Australia now as well.

Souris serves as a Member of the NSW Legislative Assembly, Member for Upper Hunter, Minister for Tourism Major Events Hospitality and Racing, Minister for the Arts and Member of the Nationals and his jurisdiction includes the widely-lauded Australian film industry which continues to impress at major festivals around the world.
