ABC News: “Fewer Tourists Chose Greek Islands This Year Due to Low-Quality of Services Offered”

Rachel Brown, correspondent of Australian ABC News, reported that visitors of Greek islands have decreased by far and the country’s tour operators and professionals of the sector are deeply disappointed. Their ultimate hope is that tourists may book their summer vacations in August thanks to last-minute deals.

According to the reporter, this decrease follows on the heels of the financial crisis with which the country is struggling, as well as Greece’s negative image broadcast abroad, with protesters destroying Athens. As a result, visitors chose the rivieras of Turkey, Italy or Spain to spend their summer vacations, since these destinations appear more friendly and safe.

Rachel Brown concluded that Greek tourism’s future seems negative as well. She stressed that the Greek islands offer low-quality services.

    Rachel Brown clearly expects to be treated like a Goddess, with slaves and mignons at her beck and call. First of all there are no riots across the Hellenic nation and indeed only the occasional spat begun by communists in Athens. Three Australian  friends have separately returned from there in the last month and all spoke to me about how safe they felt, their love for the land and the islands and how ell they were treated. Late last year our son went on his own and the very same response. The very same comments. The year before, 20120, we went and again the same.
    We could not fault the islands we visited nor Athens nor any part of our travel. Plus it was the cheapest of all places to visit in Europe as our son also states.
    Maybe Rachel Brown is upset because she did not get the freebies that many in the media expect?

    Greece has over 6000 islands and has the 10th (and some lists have it 11th behind China at #10th) coastline in the world. The key to this fact is that its coastline is in the heart of the Meditteranean, which is famed for its beautiful waters and excellent climate.  It’s neighbours, Italy and Turkey are 6 and 7 times bigger in population and 3 and 7 times bigger in area respectively, yet there coastlines need to be combined to come close to Greece’s coastline length. Do some research on Greece, invest 4 to 5 weeks of your life, and you will be amazed at the unbelievable beauty of this nation. Then there is the foods, the historical sites, they unique way of life, the culture and all the rest  If you don’t want to invest 4 to 5 weeks of your life, do some research google and youtube.  See for yourselves. Using the key operative words of QUANTITY and QUALITY, Greece has the best beaches in the world, you can swim in all of them (no sharks stingrays etc) the variety in shapes styles sizes colours, the infrastructure around them, the depth of choices in style.  Rachel needs to have a conversation with me for 30 minutes for some key facts and a presentation, and she will be feeling very silly after it.

    I love Greece despite being robbed on the subway in from the airport.  But I will not go back until they take 10 percent of the taxi drivers and jail them “pour encoureger les autres”  In no other tourist destination have the drivers been so obnoxious, so disdainful and so awful.

    I agree with you…Taxi drivers are all thieves and they deserve to be arrested and their driving license been confiscated by the police for their dirty work so my advice is not to go back and let us teach these Greeks a lesson how to treat people the way they want to be treated…God save the King…
