A picture of a crumpled piece of wrapping paper won the first prize at a famous photo exhibition taking place in the Gold Coast area of Australia. It was taken by Greek-Australian Eugenia Raskopoulos who received, apart from the prize, $20,000.
Hundreds of photographers took part in the contest while the president of the jury, another Greek-Australian, Kostas Gouriotis, commented that this year’s participants are “extraordinary.” He also stated that, in his opinion, the picture awarded first prize depicts a great thought behind the image because it describes the changes of this item on multiple levels.
The photographer herself said that “there is no specific message but a poetic translation of what there was and what it was turned to [the wrapping paper] and everyone can decipher something different when looking at the picture.”
