The Australian government plans to reinforce relationships with Greece. Australian Minister for Immigration Chris Bowen announced the establishment of a Greek Ministerial Consultative Committee.
The Minister’s purpose is to create a way of communicating for the Greek Diaspora of Australia, in order to discuss their problems with the Government decision-making centers.
According to an announcement from Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and Greek Australian MPs Maria Vamvakinou and Steve Georganas, the Greek Consultative Committee will consist of ten representatives of Greek communities of Australia with proven knowledge of such matters and broad action in their professional or volunteering sectors.
Presidents of the Greek Committee will be both Maria Vamvakinou and Steve Georganas, as well as two Ministers of the Gillard government, to cooperate on matters concerning Greek Australians.
