By now, Alex Lykos has created a theatrical following due to his previous Adam and Eve plays. Alex’s latest installment is called “Better Man.” It is currently playing in Sydney from May 24-June 10, and moves away totally from the Adam and Eve genre.
As you approach the entry of the Side Track theatre, there are signs warning the patrons of use of profanities during the play; this is definitely true. Alex has written a very real and moving play about a modern day family and its inner workings; you experience what the protoganist Jimmy does to achieve acknowledgement from his parents.
We all recognize and empathize with the relationships he has with his Greek parents, Frank and Zoi. We also see Jimmy working through friendship issues with his tennis-playing friend Ricky.
Go see this play. You walk away from it feeling like you have witnessed a friend’s plight.
