Following the discerning “Our Generation“ screening and discussion with former ABC journalist and 60 Minutes reporter Jeff McMullen at Customs House on May 6, the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW has invited Dr. McMullen to present the film and discussion at the Greek Orthodox Community Club in Lakemba.
The oldest culture on earth is fighting for survival. “Our Generation” explains the real issues underlying Aboriginal disadvantage in the country, and the responses of Aboriginal people to the Northern Territory Intervention. Through the voices of youth, men, women and Elders from remote communities, the film opens the way for dialogue on how Australia can move forward with genuine respect and partnership with its First Peoples.
The Stronger Futures legislation proposes to extend key elements of the Northern Territory Intervention until 2022. The Northern Territory Intervention has been condemned by the United Nations as racially discriminatory and against international human rights principles.
In an eye opening presentation that should not be missed, Dr. McMullen will discuss the Stronger Futures legislation, its clash with human rights obligations, the calls by NT Elders for opposition to the Government’s approach, the Stand for Freedom campaign and how we as a community can do our part in support to help make a difference.
