Melbourne Grammar School Opens Its Doors After Renovation

Melbourne’s Alphington Grammar School recently opened their doors to a number of Greek organizations for an open day at the campus, according to a neoskosmos.com article.

Alphington Chairman Nick Koukouvitakis organized the event to open up the school during working hours to let Greek businesses see the school’s teachers and students in action, following a $8 million revamp on its premises. The renovation was partly funded by the Building fοr the Education Revolution program of the Australian government and the project was designed by Ηayball Architects, a well-known firm in Australia.

The organizations were shown through six new classrooms and a new multipurpose hall, as well as were provided with an outline of upcoming building projects, which the school and the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV) plan to embark on. These include plans for a new science wing and upgrade to the library.

Students welcomed the guests. The school band performed some Greek music, while school captains spoke about their experiences and appreciation of the school.

During his speech, Koukouvitakis explained the work with community leaders was an effort to encourage greater levels of engagement with the broader local community.
