Malaysian Paper Says Anti-Islamic Charges On Senator Xenophon Was A Misunderstanding

A Malaysian Newspaper apologized to Independent Senator Nick Xenophon for accusing him of delivering an anti-Islamic speech in Parliament.

Malaysian New Straits Time subsituted a quote of an old speech delivered by the Federal Independent Senator. In his 2009 speech, they wrote the word “Islam,” where the original text had the word “Scientology.”

The Greek-Australian Senator said that this accusation is a major lie and he is about to sue the Malaysian paper, despite their public apology.

The article, in a bid to convince the readers about their claim, stated that “Senator Xenophon supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, while in Malaysia, homosexuality is illegal.”

In his original speech, the Senator had made a reference to a former Scientology member, who “was instructed by the organization to disconnect with her sister because her sister was gay” and thus, “dangerous, perverted and evil,” according to Scientology.
