The Gillard Government provided a $1.9 million grant to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia to help complete the second phase of the Bribie Island Youth Campus last Sunday in Sydney, on the occasion of the March 25th National Anniversary Day.
Funding was provided to the Saint Andrews Greek Orthodox Theological College, which has been developing the youth facility since construction began in 1997, explains Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese.
Mr. Albanese, who deposited wreaths and represented Prime Minister Julia Gillard, made the announcement of Government support during Greek Independence Day celebrations in Sydney and congratulated the Archdiocese for its 15-year effort.
The Bribie Island Youth Campus will be used as a retreat for young members of the Orthodox Church and will include educational, physical and cultural activities. The facilities will also be available for use by the wider community.
