Canberra is Willing to Help Greece by Offering its Know-How in Taxation Practices

The newly established Business Council, consisting of Greek businessmen and targeting the development of stronger financial cooperation, is expected to play a significant role in the bilateral relations between Greece and Australia

Australia is also willing to offer Greece its know-how concerning taxation, on the grounds that the Australian tax-collection system has been distinguished through its impeccability, according to statements of the Ambassador to Greece in Australia Jenny Bloomfield, who attended a meeting with the members of the Australia-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Committee.

J. Bloomfield informed the Australian members of the situation in Greece, pointing out that the people in Greece are extremely hostile against the politicians as they consider them responsible for the crisis and the imposed measures. She also referred to the need for restructuring many services and simplifying the bureaucracy in the Greek public sector.

The meeting in Canberra was due to the initiative of Maria Vamvakinou,  Federal Member for Calwell Victoria and the Federal MP Steve Georganas.

According to her statements, M. Vamvakinou considers the tax-collection inability of the Greek state the major problematic factor. She regards the restructure of such mechanisms as the key to the “sanitation” of the Greek economy.
