Australian MPs Ask for Recognition of Greek, Armenian, and Assyrian Genocides

Australian MPs and Senators ask for the recognition of Greek, Armenian and Assyrian Genocides. Malcolm Turnbull, Federal Member for Wentworth, Joe Hockey federal Member for North Sydney and the Shadow Treasurer, Joel Fitzgibbon former Defence Minister, Paul Fletcher and John Alexander have forwarded this proposal before the Australian Parliament.

In particular, Turnbull emphasized that during 1914-1923 the Ottoman Empire committed crimes against humanity, through Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian Genocides.

Moreover, other MPs underlined the necessity of recognizing these genocides and that such a recognition could not be against Turkey.

In addition, Senator Nick Xenophon and Scott Morrisson have recently proposed the recognition of the genocides, too. Members of the Greek-Australian Council of New South Wales and representatives of the Armenians and Assyrians have visited Canberra in order to inform Australian Parliament about their decisions.
