Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne Hosted Successful “Glenti”

Thousands of Greek-Australians have answered the call of the Pan-Macedonian Association of Melbourne last Sunday and attended the grandiose festivities hosted on Atherton Road, the main street on Eaton Mall square, on the occasion of the Oxi Day celebrations.

The most impressive thing was that many attendants had come there with their friends from districts around Melbourne to take part at the Greek “glenti” and were actually thinking of organizing the same kind of festivities at their own neighborhoods and among other nationalities as well.

Several Greek dancing groups performed traditional dances all night long, while live traditional Greek music accompanied them and made everyone present eager to step into the dance. The Greek Choir “Florineon” joined the programme and presented many old and modern songs.

The day ended as a big success for the cultural association and the whole region in general.  Everyone was very pleased both by the quality of the celebrations and the overwhelming attendance and participation.

Many Church and government officials were also present at the event, commenting on the excellent work the Pan-Macedonian Association had done and on the high importance such events hold for the preserving of cultural heritage. General Consulate of Greece in Melbourne Mrs. Lianidou was also present as well as the Oakleigh MP Mrs. Ann Barker and Dandenong Mr. Yiannis Pantazpoulos.
