‘A Journey on the Waves of History’ Exhibition Starts in Melbourne

David Davis, Minister for Health in Victoria, Melbourne initiated the exhibition programme, named ‘A Journey on the waves of History’ and located in the Greek Museum of Melbourne.

The exhibition, being organized in collaboration with the Greek Cultural Institution includes 15 model ships on display, covering the period 1500 BC to 1900 AD, that portray a genuine knowledge of historical significance and a passion for these ancient vessels and the culture they reveal. The model ships are accompanied by some rare artefacts which enhance the exhibition.

In the introduction of the exhibition catalogue, Professor and Chairman of the Greek Cultural center underlines:”The sea is an element which is completely interwoven in Hellenic history and culture. The special relationship between the Hellenes and the sea is reflected in the detailed works of Evangelos Grypiotis. His artworks indicate his deep knowledge of the Greek history and passion for the culture emerging from these works”.

The exhibition provides visitors an opportunity to explore Greece’s culture. Beside the visual works on display, other themes in the exhibition cover shipbuilding, history, ethnology, mythology, economics and democracy.
