HFC Holds Micro Naval Architecture Exhibition in Melbourne

A micro naval architecture exhibition, featuring replicas of milestone Greek ships in the evolution of navigation will be presented for the first time in Melbourne by the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (HFC) in collaboration with Nafsika Stamoulis Hellenic Museum.

The micro naval architecture exhibits will be accompanied by replicas of ancient Greek objects depicting images from life at the sea.

Professor G. Babiniotis, President of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, mentions in the exhibition’s booklet preface that the sea is a completely intertwined element with Greek history and culture, bringing different people and cultures together through the ages;

“The sentimental rapport between Greeks and the sea is reflected in a moving manner through Grypiotis’ works, serving as an expression of substantial knowledge of historical sources and the profound love of the creator for “wooden hulls” and the culture they convey”.

Grypiotis’ ships reached Melbourne – a city with maritime tradition – to offer the visitor a journey to the culture of Greece. “The exhibits, besides the aesthetic wealth they offer, provide a significant stimulus for lessons not only in shipbuilding but also in history, ethnology, mythology, economy, even in democracy”

The exhibition is held with the undivided moral and material support of Mr. Haris Stamoulis, Chairman of “Hellenic Museum”.
