The Australian government was asked to communicate with Turkey about the reopening of the Theological School of Halki and the return of the property of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The request was made by the Greek Australian Senator Jenny Mikakou (photo) in a letter sent to the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kevin Rudd.
In her letter, she describes the issue analytically and gives the historical background. She underlines to Mr. Ruddd that in 1988 the Australian Parliament with mutual agreement of all the political parties had discussed the issue of the Theological School of Halki and had asked for its reopening.
