”The Palace” by Antonis Maras Possible Oscar Contender

Greek director Antonis Maras will hopefully score an Oscar nomination for his short film “The Palace”, inspired by real events of 1974, has already won three awards in Australia.

“The Palace” won this year’s prize for best short film at Sydney Film Festival, the award for best short film at the Australian International Film Festival in Melbourne and the Audience Award at the Adelaide Film Festival.

The film, inspired by real events, is about a Cypriot family who tries to escape from Turkish troops in 1974 and finds refuge in an abandoned palace of the Ottoman period. When a young Turkish-Cypriot soldier confronts the family, he comes face to face with the harsh reality of war and the role he has in it.
