Immigration Ministry Makes Statement Regarding Greek Immigration Interest

The Ministry spokesman, who stated that there has been considerable interest of immigration to Australia but not so many application forms, seeems to disagree with the statement of  the chairman of the Greek Community Papastergiadis, who insisted that the organization receives many requests for help daily.

According to the Age newspaper, the spokesman stressed that Australia has the infrastructure and the ability to respond sufficiently to such kind of interest.

The Immigration Ministry stated that it is going to discuss the issue about signing an agreement with Greece, which allows Greeks as tourists and to find a job. In this case Athens consensus is necessary.

Chris Bowen, Minister for Immigration, pointed out that there has to be a Skills Expo, where Greek people can get further information. He added that there is a need to increase the personnel and their working hours of the current services, dealing with these issues.

The representatives of the Greek community gave a memorandum to the Minister including proposals for facing these problems.
