The Greek community of Bali is getting bigger and wants to have its own Greek Orthodox church. The need for the creation of an Orthodox church grew stronger during Easter Week, when the mass was celebrated by an Indonesian Orthodox priest, baptised in Greece.
The mass was celebrated in the house of a Greek woman, Marilena Vlatakis where about 25-30 Christians gathered. Some of them were of Greek origin, others were Greek-Australians. Russian and Serbian Orthodox believers participated as well. The Easter mass was conducted in Greek, stated Mr. Akis Kotzamichalis, a Greek man from Melbourne and permanent resident of Bali for over the last 7 years.
The most expensive shop in Bali is owned by a Greek, and it’s the first beach bar-restaurant lying on the sandy beach of Kuta with 400 staff members. The owner’s name is Thanasis Chondros, ex-resident of Melbourne who comes from the prefecture of Messinia.
Every Greek stated that they enjoy the quality of life in Bali. The summer, the relaxed attitude, and the fresh and tropical vegetation are some of Bali’s traits. And lots of job opportunities are in the region too.
