Archdiocese & Community of New South Wales Reach Agreement on Religious Issues

The so-called “religious” problem plaguing the Greek-Australian community for decadesĀ is nearing a solution, regarding the state of New South Wales.

According to “Neos Kosmos”, after meetings and contacts which have lasted more than six months, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales concurred on their collaboration text. Ā If approved by the members of the community, it will put an end to the problem that has plagued the community for 50 years.

The text, which happens to receive the approval of the leadership of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, was accepted by the Community Board at a meeting last Friday night.
Now the text of the Agreement will be brought to the attention of the members at an extraordinary general meeting to be held on Sunday, July 3rd. For its approval, a majority vote of 75% is needed.
It should be noted that the Greek community of Victoria, comes under the power of the Archdiocese. Essentially, among the large Greek communities of Australia, only that of South Australia isĀ under the power of the Archdiocese and the Ecumenical Patriarch.
