Queen Elisabeth Congratulates 100-Year-Old Greek Woman

Queen Elisabeth, Governor-General of Australia Quentin Bryce, Prime Minister of Australia Julia Gillard and leadership of Australia and Queensland congratulated Mrs. Koula Mottee, a Greek expatriate of Australia, for her 100 birthday by sending her a telegram.

She was born in 1911 in Kythira, immigrated to Australia in 1938 and lives in Queensland. While she was in Greece, she worked as a dressmaker in Athens, a job that gave to her self-confidence and independence. In 1938 she met George and a year later, followed him to Kempsey, NSW, Australia. In time, their business expanded. After her husband’s death, she moved to Sydney, where her three children studied. In 1969, she returned to Greece to visit her mother for last time.

After that, she decided to stay in South West Rocks, where she leads a quiet life. She walks a lot and is hosted at an old people’s home. Her 100 birthday was celebrated on Sunday 26th, March 2011 with a formal dinner organized by her family, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mottee is the woman who drove the first Holden in Kempsey.
