Monash Hellenic Student Society celebrate with cake day to welcome new members

On Wednesday March 30, the newly elected Monash Hellenic Student Society Committee (MHSS) held their annual Greek Cake Day.
Under the watchful eye of their grandmothers, the students donned their aprons the night before to reproduce some of their most sacred family recipes. The stall featured an array of cakes to cater for all. Those with a very sweet tooth indulged in the syrup doused galaktobouriko and revani whereas students who felt a bit peckish as they rushed between classes grabbed a kourabie, cupcake or truffle.
Halva and loukoumia were available to cater for those who were fasting and resident barista, committee member Phillip Vasiliadis, also provided a coffee fix for students with his frappes. The event proved to be a great opportunity for members of MHSS as well as the wider Monash University community to meet the new committee and have a chat to them about upcoming events.
Presidents Mike Kourkoulis and Steph Manatakis were excited to see how lively the Greek social scene was at the University, with members and non-members embracing the opportunity to enjoy the cultural experience. They hope to continue the amazing work of previous Presidents Jonathon Kasapidis and Angelique Mylonas in promoting the Greek Australian culture and social scene at the university.
The next major event, the club’s annual Tavern Night, is to be held May 13 at Yiannis Tavern. It is sure to be a night of great food, good company and dancing.
