Greek Council of Sydney Awards “Niki” Prizes to Politicians

The Australian politicians who were awarded this year with “Niki” prizes by the Australian Greek Council in Sydney, promised to always remian close to Greece, Cyprus and to all Greeks.

Specifically this year, “Niki” prizes were given to State Deputies Cheri Burton and David Clark for their attempts over the acknowledgement of Greek, Armenian and Assyrian genocides.  The first prize coined: “Alexandros”, was given to  independent Federal Congressman Nick Ksenofon.

“Niki” prizes were inaugurated in 1966 as an expression of thanks from expatriate Greeks to the Australian politicians who have helped the Greeks of Australia. Among the awardees of the past, there have been three former Prime Ministers of Australia: Malcolm Fraser, Golf Whitlam and John Howard.
