Greek Language Included in Australian National Curriculum

Greek is one of the eleven languages to be included in the Australian National Curriculum by mid 2011.
As reported by Neos Kosmos, the relevant committee (ACARA) included Greek in “national priority” languages, characterized as “Heritage Language” and not as “Ethnic Language”.
The National Language Curriculum will be implemented in three phases, starting from July 1st 2011.
In its third phase at the end of 2011, Greek, Arabic and Vietnamese will be included.  This phase places emphasis on renaming Greek to the “Heritage Language” genre.
Greek educators in Australia characterize the redefinition of the language from “Ethnic” to a “Heritage Language” as a great achievement.
