Greek American comedian Michael Kosta recently made his late night debut on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the funnyman has not looked back since.
His popularity has escalated ten-fold, and he is doing both us and Greek America proud with major comedic appearances in various countries.
His recent tour schedule has included Australia, and it has been a real success.
Michael Kosta was once a professional tennis player.
He made the leap into comedy at 27 years of age, and has since become one of America’s fastest rising talents.
Before Jay Leno got a hold of him, Kosta was invited to the prestigious Montreal Just Laughs festival.
This is about the time he started to break the big time, when a string of festival invitations began to mount.
Kosta made his Aussie stand-up debut at Sydney’s The Comedy Store and appeared on Channel Ten’s comedy show Good News Week last week.
The Comedy Store welcomed Kosta with open arms during his visit down under as he featured at the club twice a week from July 27 until August 7.
He is a self-confessed “arrogant smart ass”, but is all about poking fun at himself for good measure.
As part of his recent skit, Kosta presents a segment to the audience called “Lucky You”, where he interviews the crowd about how awesome it is to be in his presence.
The Comedy Store say that he is willing to play with the audience, but that there is no need to be scared and that he really is a friendly guy!
In an interview with the club, Kosta said, “I love to showcase the audience and the people I work with on a week-to-week basis. I love to include a local section of the show. I like to get to know people in front. I like to build the show around the people who are there.”
The comedian lives in Los Angeles at the moment and hopes to soon become “famous and forget all the little people.”
Kosta has toured Sydney and Brisbane and his six shows in Melbourne are nearing a close – August 17 – 22 at the Comics Lounge in North Melbourne.
