The book- album “Dream home” explores the immigrational experience through the portraits and the stories of 20 Greeks that emigrated from Greece to Melbourne during the period 1954-1990.
The portraits that have been created by the Greek- Australian Jim Pavlidis, are accompanied by interviews of immigrants that Megan Backhouse took.
The book is presented in an article of the newspaper “The age”. It reflects that the immigrants, whose interviews are in the book, despite being so different from each other, they have as a common element a split devotion to both of their countries. “Having two flags is the best and at the same time the worst thing we can have because you are all the time divided” Anna Pappas mentioned being one of the immigrants interviewed. According to the article, the text of the book is exciting and strong while at the same time, the works of the painter Jim Pavlidis is presented. Among the persons portrayed is also the poet Tom Petsinis and there are also some of his poets in the book.
