Tina Arena and many other local personalities turned out for a lavish gala event at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to show their support for the launch of award-winning Five Star airline Qatar Airways into Melbourne.
Qatar Airways will be flying directly to Athens three days per week and in March will commence daily flights to Athens.
The event, which attracted sports personalities, television stars and actors and actresses, was another high point for Qatar Airways, which had seen its inaugural flight arrive into Melbourne from Doha on Sunday night (6 December), establishing the airline’s first destination in Australia.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker greeted the guests and expressed his enthusiasm for Melbourne as the airline’s first Australian gateway.
Al Baker announced to a delighted audience that Qatar Airways will fly one hour less to London than their competitors and that with one seat less per row they will do it in greater comfort and style.
Qatar Airways flies three times a week from Melbourne to Doha, connecting to airline’s extensive global network, which the airline has established over the last 12 years since its inception.
Melbourne flights will operate daily from 1 January 2010.
